Azienda Agricola Serracavallo
Serracavallo winery was born in the 1930s in Bisignano, province of Cosenza, from the passion of Doctor Demetrio Bugliari for the vineyard and good wine. The name evokes the ancient function of the mansion as a horse farm of Sanseverino princes: a native Chinea Bianca horse breed. The nephew, Demetrio Stancati, followed the footsteps of his maternal grandfather and started a work of renewal of the vineyards, bringing their extension to about 50 hectares and restructuring the country house and some farmhouses and factories.
The planting of the vineyards today amounts to 3300 plants per hectare, trained with the spurred cordon or guyot system and cultivated exclusively in an organic regime, with manual harvesting of the grapes. A careful clonal selection of native vines (Magliocco Dolce, Pecorello, Brettio, Greco Nero) is joined by international vines (Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot and Sangiovese). In the cellar, built with the most modern technologies, there is a production of about 120,000 bottles of Terre di Cosenza PDO wines a year. The barrique cellar, totally underground, houses some wines in french wooden barriques and tonneaux.
Foresteria di Serracavallo allows to host wine tourism enthusiasts in the idyllic space of 5 rooms immersed in the countryside and equipped with every comfort. In addition, we offer guided tours of the cellar with wine tastings accompanied by a platter of local products.
