Delicious experiences in the Pollino National Park

The Pollino National Park extends on the Calabrian side in the province of Cosenza and it encloses within its borders 32 municipalities, immersed in an uncontaminated nature that finds in the Loricato Pine the symbolic tree.

In addition to the main centers, such as Castrovillari, these are mostly historic and slow villages, authentic communities and ethnic minorities, custodians of ancient cultural, food and wine traditions.

A taste of the typical products of Pollino

The cuisine of Pollino is humble but varied.

It includes several soups prepared with ancient local legumes, but also meat dishes, cheeses, and traditional dairy products, like Salumi di Calabria PDO (cured meats) and peculiar PDO and TGI branded wines. This is the result of a centuries-old attention to autochthonous wines (Magliocco, Gaglioppo, Aglianico, Greco Bianco, Pecorello, Malvasia e Montonico) from which Terre di Cosenza PDO wines are also produced.

Among the specialties not to be missed are the precious Honey of Pollino, produced by hand and characterized by intense aromas (in the varieties millefiori, eucalyptus, heather, orange and acacia); the Bruzio PDO Oil and Calabria PGI; the Soppressata of Pollino, prepared of the lean part of the fillet and the leg of pork flavored with lard, spices and a slight smoke. Among the woods also lives the renowned Black Pig of Calabria PAT (Traditional Agri-Food Product) in the semi-wild state.

Not infrequently it is possible to taste Tartufo del Pollino (Truffle of Pollino), declined in 9 varieties, from the sommer scorzone to the winter black (muscat) one.
