Itinerary through the flavours of the Serre Vibonesi and surroundings

At the exact center of Calabria is concentrated the green lung of the Serre Vibonesi.

We are in the ancient territory from which first the Romans and then the Bourbons gathered resources and raw materials, the results of a flourishing local craftsmanship and agri-food products of mountains and undergrowth.

The inland area of the province of Vibo Valentia offers a slow tourism experience that combines nature, spirituality, and gastronomy in a unique way.

Specialties not to be missed

The flavors of the Serre Vibonesi are an authentic expression of communities linked to the mountains and to a poor but substantial cuisine.

Throughout the Vibonese region, it is possible to taste a series of Calabrian branded products, such as the renowned PAT 'Nduja of Spilinga (Traditional Agri-food Product) and the PDO Pecorino del Monte Poro, as well as the first fruits of the woods and handmade typical delicacies, linked to local festivals and traditions.

The first two foods are true symbols of regional gastronomy.

The 'Nduja is the tasty, hot, and spicy pork spread sought throughout Italy, which is used fresh, on homemade bread and bruschetta, or to flavor first courses (scilatelle, homemade pasta) and soups.

PDO Pecorino del Monte Poro is a sheep's milk cheese to which kid or lamb rennet is added, available fresh (from 20 to 60 days), semi-aged (from 2 to 6 months) and matured (from 6 to 24 months). Perfect in Calabrian cutting board, in combination with Salumi di Calabria PDO (cured meat, especially bucculàru, pork guanciale) and fresh fava beans.

The other typical products of the Serre Vibonesi are the Porcino Mushroom of the Serre, the Chartreuse (liqueur produced by Carthusian monks), the Torrone and the Mostaccioli from Soriano Calabro.
