The history of the fig in Calabria has its roots in a remote era, as the fig has always been the prince fruit of the Mediterranean.

The Fico Dottato is the most valuable in the Mediterranean; the one from Cosenza obtained the PDO brand in 2011. It belongs to the Dottato Bianco di Cosenza variety (Ficus Carica Sativa species), with its characteristic teardrop shape with peduncle.
