The Patata della Sila PGI (Sila Potato) is the tuber (a.k.a. root) that comes from the Solanum tuberosum species.

The production area of the PGI product is the Sila Plateau, therefore involving several municipalities within the provinces of both Catanzaro and Cosenza.

The land where the potato is bred must be plowed in autumn and / or spring and must be free of water stagnation. Sowing takes place in the period fromearly April to the end of June, while harvesting begins in August and lasts until the end of November and can be harvested either manually or with the help of mechanical means.

The product should be stored in a dark environment, atroom temperature and for a maximum of 8 months.

There are different varieties of the Patata della Sila PGI: Agria, Ditta, Marabel and Nicola  have yellow skin and pulp; the Majestic  has yellow skin and white pulp, the Desirèe has red skin and yellow pulp.
