Melissa PDO

Melissa PDO wines can be produced in white and red types.

The production area of ​​Melissa PDO includes the territory of the following municipalities, located in Province of Crotone: Melissa, Belvedere Spinello, Carfizzi, San Nicola dell'Alto, Umbriatico, Casabona, Castel Silano, Crotone, Pallagorio, Rocca di Neto, Scandale, San Mauro Marchesato, Santa Severina, Strongoli.

Melissa wines must be obtained from grapes from vineyards with the following ampelographic compositions: for the white, grapes from Greco Bianco (Greco White) vines are used, with a share between 80% and 95%, combined with those of Tuscan Trebbiano and Malvasia white; while for the red Melissa, the Gaglioppo vine is used (between 75% and 95%), flanked by Black Greco, White Greco, Tuscan Trebbiano and White Malvasia.

In addition to the red Melissa PDO, there is also the superior red variant.
