Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

The Sanctuary of Maria Santissima del Carmelo stands in the historical centre of Palmi and it is home to the confraternity of the same name and a convent of friars of the Carmelite order. It houses the miraculous statue of the Madonna del Carmine.

The façade of the sanctuary is gabled, with the marble coat of arms of the Carmelite Order; the interior consists of a single nave. The high altar of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (1777) is made of sculpted and polychrome white marble inlaid by Paolo Rechichi and Antonio Chitton. Above the altar is an aedicule containing a sculptural group of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and angels (1782) by sculptor Domenico De Lorenzo.
