Monasterace Marina
Monasterace Marina is the seaside hamlet of the municipality of Monasterace. It stands on the site of the ancient Magna Graecia city of Kaulon, founded in the 8th century BC. At the time of the first excavations, the coastline had shifted forward by more than 350 metres and underwater investigations in the 1980s identified the area where the Coynthum Promontorium mentioned in Greek sources stood. Today, it is home to several bathing beaches and the Museum of Monasterace, which houses some of the artefacts found there.
