Dolomites of the South

Situated on the eastern spurs of the Aspromonte National Park, Canolo is famous for the so-called "Dolomites of the South", which tower above the village. The town is in fact located in the centre of two canyons carved into the rock by the Novito and Pachina rivers. Mount Mutolo dominates the landscape with its peaks and at its foot there is a S.I.C. (Area of Community Interest) and Z.P.S. (Special Protection Area) zone for both the high seismic risk and the presence of a precious peat bog in the locality of Malivindi, the southernmost peat bog in Europe, which is in the process of being recovered.
