Cecita Lake

Lake Cecita is an artificial lake built to produce electricity in the province of Cosenza, in Sila Grande. The lake was created by damming the Mucone river, which springs from the slopes of Mount Curcio. Its shores are a destination not only for tourists but also for fishing enthusiasts during the periods when it is practicable. Lake Cecita guards an important archaeological heritage that came to light a few years ago, from the excavation work begun in 2004, which brought to light very ancient evidence of Neanderthal man.
