Torrone di Bagnara PGI
The Torrone di Bagnara PGI (Bagnara nougat) is the result of processing honey, unroasted almonds, clove powder, sugar and bitter cocoa.
The area of production of the PGI product is the entire territory of the municipality of Bagnara Calabra, in the province of Reggio Calabria.
Torrone di Bagnara PGI is obtained from the careful processing of the above ingredients by producers who still use the traditional method dating back to 1800. The product is slowly cooked at high temperatures, followed by refining and shaping procedures depending on the required and desired shape.
When placed on the market, Bagnara nougat can be of two types that vary in their covering: the Martiniana variant is covered with granulated sugar, while the glazed Torrefatto variant is covered with a mixture of sugar and cocoa.
Bagnara nougat PGI is a typical Calabrian sweet belonging to the Christmas tradition.
